Antonio Banderas

Actor, born August 10, 1960 in Málaga, Spain, to a State Department worker and a teacher. He has one younger brother, Francisco. At age 14, Banderas began acting with a small theater company in Málaga, although his real dream was to play professional soccer. After breaking hisfoot, he turned to the stage as his primary interest, studying at the School of Dramatic Art in Málaga. At 19 in 1981, Banderas moved to Madrid and joined the ensemble of the National Theater of Spain. After a performance at a village theater, Banderas was introduced to film director Pedro Almodóvar. Together they forged a new film industry, producing a handful of respectable and controversial movies, including 1982's “Labyrinth of Passion.” However, it was the 1988 hit, “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown,” that brought Banderas to the attention of an international audience. Bandaras’ first film in the United States was “The Mambo Kings,” followed by a supporting role in the critically-acclaimed “Philadelphia.” Banderas went on to appear in a string of movies that further tapped his talents for bringing complex personalities alive on screen, including 1993’s “The House of the Spirits,” 1994’s “Interview with the Vampire” co-starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt and 1995’s “Desperado” and “Assassins.”...
