He writes his own material and makes his own props, extending beyond the rubber chicken-like the paper-cup-and-string telephone with a third cup for call waiting. An original from the start, Carrot Top is one of the most popular and successful comedians in America. Each year he stars for an astonishing 15 weeks in Las Vegas, headlines concerts across the country, and makes dozens of television appearances. His freshman year at Florida Atlantic University he went to a club and saw live stand-up comedy for the first time. Hesitant about attempting an open mic night at school with old jokes, he went again the next semester after writing his own jokes, focusing on the school–which prompted his first prop. After graduating, Carrot Top worked while honing his act. But after his first full year as a comic and not being able to break into clubs, he quit out of frustration. New Year's Eve 1987 brought a gig at a club reminding Carrot Top how much fun it was and that he was capable of doing it.
