Barry Switzer


Barry Switzer built one of the greatest programs in college football history with his Oklahoma Sooners during the 1970s and 1980s. A head coach to win both a Super Bowl title and a national collegiate championship. He won 83-percent of his games, a statistic that is No. 4 on the all-time winning percentage list. In 1973, after serving as an assistant for several seasons, Switzer was named head coach of the Oklahoma Sooners, and his offensive track meets began immediately. He perfected the Wishbone offense and turned Oklahoma's version into the most-feared offense in the nation. Switzer's first team went 10-0-1 and finished ranked No. 3 in the nation. The following season, Switzer's team won a National Championship with an 11-0 finish. In 1975, the Sooners cruised to a 10-1 regular season and a No. 3 ranking heading into the Orange Bowl. When the dust cleared on New Year's Day, the nation's No. 1 and No. 2 teams had fallen and Oklahoma won a second-straight National Championship under Switzer's command.
