Donald Trump


The third generation in a family of businessmen, Donald has his father, Fred, to thank for his deal making and entrepreneurial skills. Fred started his own business as a real estate developer because he recognized the money to be made in the field. He came to specialize in constructing and operating middle-income apartments in Queens, Staten Island, and Brooklyn. Donald assisted his father in his business ventures when he was still young, able to recognize a good deal when he saw it. Donald was an energetic, assertive child, so his parents sent him to the New York Military Academy at age 13. Trump did well at the Academy, rising to be a star athlete and student leader by the time he graduated in 1964. He then studied at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School. With an innate eye for business and the additional training he received in school and while working for his father, Trump knew what he wanted to do with his life: join his father’s company, The Trump Organization. After graduation he was able to finance an expansion of the company’s holdings by convincing his father to be more liberal in the use of loans based on the equity in the Trump apartment complexes.
