Andres Cantor


Andrés Cantor is the most recognized soccer personality in the United States. During the 1990, 1994 and 1998 World Cups, Andrés broadcast the play-by-play of every World Cup game for Univision. He is known not only for his distinctive style, but also for his encyclopedic knowledge of and passion for the sport. His work has brought him multiple honors, including the 1994 Emmy for Individual Achievement and 1994 Sports Personality of the Year award of the American Sportscaster 's Association. He was chosen as "Best of the Mic", in a recent Sports Illustrated article and has received two Lifetime Achievement Awards, one from "Minorities in Broadcasting" and the other by Broadcasting and Cable Magazine. His most recent honors include appointments to the FIFA Media Committee and to the U.S. Soccer Foundation Board of Directors. His trademark cry of "GOOOOAL" has become internationally famous and led to his appearances in 1994 and 1998 on the "Late Show with David Letterman" as well as on other programs in the U.S. and abroad.
