Ashley Judd toyed with the idea of becoming a Peace Corps volunteer in Africa before she heeded her sister’s advice to take Hollywood by storm. She bypassed the traditional travails most wannabe actors encounter by brandishing her remarkably self-assured attitude and marching straight into a Los Angles agency, walking out signed. She then left her first audition, for Christian Slater's Kuffs, with a part. After a few television roles, Judd appeared in Ruby in Paradise, a coming-of-age film that won the Grand Jury Prize at the 1993 Sundance Film Festival. Judd also garnered an Independent Spirit Award for her portrayal of the title character.
Judd has managed to build a solid reputation for herself with supporting roles in good movies, for which she has earned excellent reviews, including roles in “Smoke,” “Heat” and “A Time To Kill.” Judd has also starred opposite Luke Perry in 1996’s “Normal Life,” and she earned an Emmy nomination for her portrayal of the young Marilyn Monroe in HBO's “Norma Jean and Marilyn.”
