During Senator George Mitchell’s illustrious 14-year career in the U.S. Senate, he served six years as Majority Leader and was honored with bipartisan respect. Mitchell’s exceptional diplomatic abilities have been repeatedly demonstrated on a global scale.
The British and Irish governments asked that he serve as chairman of peace negotiations in Northern Ireland. Most recently, he served as chairman of an International Fact-Finding Committee on violence in the Middle East at the request of the governments of the United States and Israel, and the Palestinian Authority.
