A true musical prodigy, Alicia Keys will soon take modern R&B soul to a whole new level at the tender age of nineteen. Since the age of 5, Keys has proven herself a true musical prodigy. Born and raised in Manhattan, New York, a great deal of her upbringing was devoted to music and her aspirations to succeed as a performer. Following her mother’s insistence, Keys devoted herself to piano lessons throughout her childhood, which allowed her to blossom into the exceptionally talented pianist she is today.
In 1998, major record labels began discovering her, which resulted in old-fashioned bidding wars in her honor. She eventually signed with Arista Records, where she continued the process of writing, producing and recording the debut album that she had been working on since the age of 14.
In late 1999, Alicia decided to join Clive Davis and his newfound record label, J Records. Keys saw this as an opportunity to grow and Davis, being the legendary record mogul that he is, has been relentlessly promoting the piano-playing prodigy ever since.
