Brooks has recorded two comedy albums: Comedy Minus One (available by special order through Rhino) and A Star is Bought (currently out of print), the latter earning him a Grammy Award nomination for Best Comedy Recording. His first directorial effort was in 1972 for the PBS series The Great American Dream Machine. He adapted an article he had written for Esquire Magazine, "Albert Brooks' Famous School for Comedians" into a short film. Following this, he created six short films for the debut season of Saturday Night Live. He has appeared as a guest voice on The Simpsons five times during its run (always under the name A. Brooks), and is described as the best guest star in the show's history by IGN.Brooks continued his voiceover work in Disney and Pixar's Finding Nemo (2003), as the voice of "Marlin"; Nemo is Brooks's largest grossing film to date. In 2007, he continued his long term collaboration with The Simpsons by voicing Russ Cargill, the main antagonist of The Simpsons Movie.
Brooks has been honored by the American Film Institute with a retrospective of his work at the First U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen Colorado.
