child killed by a police officer on the acclaimed series “Hill Street Blues” and a rape victim on the pilot of “L.A. Law”. She received an Emmy Award for Best Actress in a television mini-series for “Miss Ever’s Boys” and a 2003 Emmy for her guest-starring role in “The Practice”. She was also honored with an ACE Award for her portrayal of Winnie Mandela in the HBO presentation “Mandela,” co-starring Danny Glover. A former high school cheerleader and track star, she got the acting bug after being persuaded to audition for a school play by a nun at her school. She went on to study acting at Boston University and enjoyed a brief stint on Broadway before moving to LA. She got her first break in "Remember My Name (1978)".
