Arthur Laffer


1980 and the 1979 Daniel Webster Award of the International Platform Association. Named Distinguished University Professor at Pepperdine University, and member of the Pepperdine Board of Directors, Laffer was also the Charles B. Thornton Professor of Business Economics at the University of Southern California from 1976 to 1984, and Associate Professor of Business Economics at the University of Chicago from 1970 to 1976. Laffer was a consultant to the Secretaries of Treasury and Defense for five years; served as chief economist in the Office of Management and Budget from October 1970 through July 1972, on leave of absence from the University of Chicago; and was associated with the editorial page of The Wall Street Journal from 1972 through 1977. Graduating from Yale University in 1963 with an economics degree, Lafffer also attended the University of Munich, Germany. He received his MBA (1965) and a Ph.D. in Economics (1972) from Stanford University.
